Day 2

Hey! Day 2 and first FULL day on the island. Tonight I'm sitting in my room writing, as it's a little later and the bugs have come out. I slept awfully well, which makes sense considering the cool temperatures here at night. At one point I was even a little chilly with my window open -- which is exactly how I like it.

I had a wonderful breakfast of eggs and sausage and finished it off with a little muffin. Did some organizing then up Lighthouse hill for my first day of work. I formulated a bunch of goals and ideas for my work this summer at the museum and wrote them down, and then began concentrating these ideas into key talking points for the walk I'll be designing and guiding.

I had a yummy leftover lunch of rice, beans, and meat with some peppers and onions (and another muffin of course) on a bench at so far the best view of the village and Manana that I've found. Kept working until the early evening, when I headed back to the inn and went swimming at fish beach with my new and super cool friend Jess. The water was FREEZING, but it brought my energy up for sure.

BEACHES ON ISLAND:

  • There are really only two sandy beaches on the island, and they're both pretty small, but fish beach has some lovely seaglass (some of it needs to tumble in the surf for a little longer though, to get those classic smooth edges). The Maine coast is known for rugged cliffs, like those described in yesterday's post, but there are a few spots on the island where the land meets the sea with large pebbles or stones, which could work as fine beaches as well.
I went back to the Inn for a shower and made it out just in time for dinner. Gabe, who does most of the cooking for the employees here, made a hearty spread of BBQ chicken and tofu, potato salad, and hot honey glazed carrots. My plate was empty.

FUN FACT:
  • I am obsessed with potato salad, and there's a fair amount leftover, so I know what lunch will be for the next few days. Can't wait.
I helped the squad clean up the kitchen and met Mabel. Mabel is kind of loud, and she's very unpredictable. She's got a boxy build, and spends most of her days under the counter in the kitchen. She's super hot too, when she's worked up. There were like three people that had her job before her, but they died ON. THE. JOB. Can you believe that?! She works so hard. She's a commercial dishwasher, by the way. Hope that cleans things up (get it?).

Anyway, I'm back in my room now, and probably going to grab another muffin once I publish this.
Thanks for reading!
Love, Me
