Day 4

Welcome back to Monhegan Musings Day 4! Another day off today -- and it turned out pretty nice. The morning fog cleared around noon and led to some beautifully sunny (but humid) weather. Breakfast this morning was the same -- scrambled eggs and sausage (I should probably switch it up one of these days, huh?). Then I went back to my room and caught up on my lovely cellular device back under my covers. What else is a Sunday morning for?! Once lunchtime neared, I had some leftovers outside in the yard and planned out what I was going to do for the rest of the day.

I put on my hiking shoes and went on another hike! I walked to the north end of the village and veered out to the east to conquer the last of the headlands -- Black Head. The trails up there were awfully muddy and I tried my best to avoid the puddles by straddling them and jumping, sort of like I was on that one American Ninja Warrior obstacle. I'll attach a photo here.

That photo was a lot harder to find than I thought it would be. Despite my best attempts, this sidestep jumping failed be a few times, and I ended up with a soggy sock.

FUN FACT:

  • My neighbors from when I lived in a different state LOVED this TV show and they would always be watching it if my family and I came over for a dinner party. I think all of my American Ninja Warrior knowledge comes from watching this show in their basement.

Anyway, because of the rain there were a couple cute streams running through the trail, and it sounded just as you would imagine a classic babbling brook to sound. If anyone knows the difference between a stream, brook, and creek, please let me know. The view from Black Head was, of course, stunning, and the sound of the waves crashing against the almost sheer cliff was humbling. I continued walking out the the north point of the island to a stony beach known as pebble beach (not to be confused with the famous golf course and resort on the Pacific coast). Pebble beach was gorgeous, and I took a few minutes to watch the waves while Amy Winehouse sang in my ears. Actually, ear -- I only had one headphone in. I walked back to the north end of the village and made my way back to the inn. I took a shower and went back to my room to check my email.

As I was sitting on my bed, looking at this very computer screen, I felt the whole building shake rhythmically. The table in the corner of my room rattled, and immediately came to the conclusion that it was an earthquake. So I got up once it had finished to see if anyone else had felt it and learned that the washing machine down the hall was in the spin cycle. #humbled

Dinner tonight was pork curry and it was SO GOOD. Gabe really knows how to cook. I got seconds and practically licked the plate. I helped clean up (which included swapping the dirty rags for new ones in the linen building, and I stood there for a good five minutes before realizing I had no idea where the clean rags were. So I texted Jess "i need help". No response. So I texted Jane "i need help". No response. So I called Jess. No response. So I called Jane, but my data had gone from one bar to zero so I decided to stop being lazy and I walked back to the kitchen. Sorry for the incredibly long parenthetical).

Jorgie, a returning inn employee arrived today, and we went with her to a 'DJ' party near the dock. It was just a spotify queue but I guess it still counts. I was hoping for a lightup turntable, or at least someone with one headphone on. It was still fun though! We danced (a little) and Jane and I headed back. Now, I'm finishing up today's post. A little late, but worth it. And probably right on time for those readers on the West coast (shout out Pacific Time).

Catch you tomorrow,

Love, Me
