Day 10

Happy day 10! Day off today, so I slept in a bit. I skipped breakfast but made up for it with a turmeric ginger latte from the Mooring Chain cafe right down the road. Maya served me and was doing great through the rush (good job Maya). Jess and Jane joined me! We went back and I did my laundry. It ended up being a pretty sunny day, so I hung my clothes out on the line in the yard. I can't wait to wear them because they'll smell like sunshine.

Jorgie offered to make me some matcha, so of course I had to accept. I had some leftover sausages for lunch as well. Oona and her parents (and her adorable dog Fern) came out to the island today to spend a little time. Oona treated me to some ice cream from the Novelty, I got salted caramel with a cone on top. I'm pleased that there are only eight or so flavors to choose from, my home turf's ice cream shop is. There must be nearly a hundred flavors, so I usually just go for vanilla soft serve. Shoutout to the Ice Cream Cafe!

Oona and I walked around the village and out behind the meadow and the to the ice pond and watched a gorgeous boat come through and moor in the harbor for a few hours. We looked it up and it's called Maximus, and it came from the Cayman Islands. It was 60 meters long and 10 meters wide, according to my super cool Marine Traffic app. That's nearly 200 feet long! Neat sight to see, I just wish they invited me on! I really miss being on boats. Here's a photo of the Maximus:

After I bid farewell to Oona and her family, I went back to the inn and folded my laundry. Some of it was still a little wet so I left it out a bit longer, and I soaked up the sun on the lawn while I started reading an anthology of short stories by Faulkner. Eventually the whole squad joined me and we made some leftovers and ate, before Alex and Jorgie and I went to Jorgie's room to play some cards.

At one point when someone tapped their cards on the table I had a vivid moment of intense neural connection. I remembered that video that they would play in elementary school music class when we had a substitute teacher.

MEMORIES:
  • I'm sure throughout my six years as an elementary schooler we had subs more than three times, but I only recall three movies being shown during class. Those were:
    • Oliver Twist the movie musical
    • Amadeus
    • A secret third one that I'm about to reveal...
It's called STOMP out loud. It's that group of dancers/musicians that make awesome music with mundane items, often including garbage. There's that one scene where they're playing cards and they tap their cards on the table and sip tea in a super cool rhythm. Luckily, both Alex and Jorgie knew what I was talking about so I didn't seem like a total fool, and we ended up pulling up the clip on Jorgie's laptop and watching it. It was even cooler than I remember. I ran to the kitchen to grap some spoons and I played them while Alex and Jorgie tapped and tinkered with various other noise-making items around the room. We really got into it. Other friends started coming over and they were roped into STOMP along with us. We rewatched some of the most influential scenes, including the basketball scene, the kitchen scene, the card scene, and of course the broom scene.

Once everyone arrived we watched episode 4 of Girls, which made only a little sense to me since I hadn't seen the three previous episodes. My fault though, I had chosen to go to sleep the past couple viewing nights. Now I'm in bed, indulged from my treats today, warmed by Oona's visit, and grooved from STOMP. I'll attach the link in case anyone wants to watch it. It's only 50 minutes or so, and it's so worth it, believe me.
