Day 11

It's day 11! I had the day off again today and slept in until about 9. This may not sound like 'sleeping in' to some of you all, but considering I usually wake up at 7 around here for breakfast, it's a cool two hours extra of sleep. It was spellbindingly windy today. Maybe more breezy than windy, because it was so splendid! The sun was out but never did you feel that you were hot, nor cold. My favorite type of weather. I did a few chores, and then went down to the wharf to hang up another poster that I have been meaning to hang (I have been procrastinating for only 24 hours, so it wasn't even that bad). I made it just as the Hardy boat from New Harbor was arriving, and our truck driver was there to pick up some baggage from incoming guests so I chatted with him for a bit. Turns out the guests were my professor and his family here for the museum opening reception! I hitched a ride with Alex back to the inn and caught up with my professor. Time moves oddly on this island, as I know it was only 10 days ago when I waved goodbye to him as he left the island, but it truly could have been yesterday. Maybe my slowing down is working.

I read my book until lunchtime, when I heated up a black bean burger and ate it in the sun out on the lawn. Like I said, the breeze was just splendid, I can't imagine better weather. I kept reading my book but got a little drowsy, and instead of resisting, I decided to give in and take a quick nap. Jorgie reminded me that your body tells you what it needs, and given that my day was mostly free, I decided to take care of myself. I've been busy, and I deserved my little nap!

After my nap, I took a quick shower and put on a super awesome outfit for the museum opening. Here it is:

OUTFIT (bottom up)

  • Birkenstocks
  • Pink shorts
  • Colorful belt
  • Brown shirt with little holes in it (on purpose, it's the style)
  • Super cool tie in the shape of a fish (I think a mackerel)
My tie is from. this super cool Thai company (what a coincidence) called Tie A Knot. I'll link them here in case anyone is interested.
I got two more styles, but you all will have to wait to learn what they are until I wear them in real life. I didn't bring them to the island though, sorry.

I walked up the hill and got to work helping to set up. I manned the membership table, trying to get visitors/guests to donate or become members of the museum, or volunteer for shifts in the gallery or keeper's house. We got quite a few new members, so I'm pleased. Jenn, the museum director made a wonderful speech and I got a special mention! I met a lot of new people, including some of the artists whose work is featured in the exhibit and my walks! It was a super special evening, and all the folks from the inn were there as well since they were catering. It was kind of fun to have my friends here come see where I work! Here's a photo from the end of the reception, after we finished cleaning up:
Hopefully you can feel the splendor through the screen. The air smelled divine, and the sky was so clear. I felt truly like I was part of something big. Am part of something big.

Anyway, enough of that. Once we were done cleaning up, I met Jane at the bottom of the hill and we walked to Maya's house. It was her and a friend's graduation party, so we brought our festive energy and enjoyed some pasta and sunset views. The rest of the crew from the inn joined us shortly and I went for a swim, because what else is one to do on an island?! Jane and Alex and I walked home and I rinsed off, before updating you all!

Did you notice that? read the previous sentence again, I'll wait for you.

Did you notice it? The inn, the Trailing Yew, I called it home. That's how it's been feeling. I live with the people, we feel each other, care for each other, and so much more. What else does one need for home? At this point I have probably half a dozen homes, but I wouldn't have it any other way. As a way to close out this post, think about what your homes are. Where are they geographically? Who do they include? What do they necessitate to be home? Hard questions to answer, for sure. As you ponder that, I'm going to go to sleep. See you tomorrow, Monhegan Musings!

Love, Me
