Day 18

Good evening folks! Tonight I'm listening to some super awesome unreleased music that Alex is playing on the guitar. He's finger picking, which is so cool. If I could acquire any talent without any work it'd probably be tap dancing, but guitar would come in close second. Today was similar to yesterday. I woke up around 9 and chilled in bed until 10. I snagged a muffin for breakfast and read my book. I then did a few chores and heated up some lunch.

Afterwards, I hopped on my laptop and started writing a play that I suddenly got an idea for, but then I started to get sleepy so I took a nap (what else are days off for?) for an hour or so. Once I woke up, Jane and Jorgie and I decided to go to the little thrift shop behind the Monhegan House. It's in a little storage container and had some good stuff! Nothing for me, though. There was an extremely large Texas flag that I thought would be funny to hang up, but I decided against it. Turns out Jorgie had the same idea, so when she came across it, she got it and it's hung up in her room behind her bed.

After that, I took a shower and It was time for dinner. Low attendance today, which was fine. Gabe made breakfast for dinner, so we had breakfast sandwiches with roasted potatoes, peppers, and onions. Delish. We cleaned up quickly then decided to go over to the Monhegan House to see Charlotte's new dorm room. Some people moved out, so she got the new room and it's super cozy. Right out her window you can even see the Yew dorm! We hung out for a bit and had some leftover tiramisu (which was not good, actually, the 'sponge' was way too eggy and the mascarpone filling was basically buttercream, but I ate some anyway).

We went down to the thrift shop to show Alex what was new in there, and then hang out behind the hotel with some of the employees there. We came back to the Yew and might hang out a little more, you never know with these folks! The atmosphere is incredible though, I'd like to paint a full-sensory picture for you all:

IMAGINE:

  • warm amber light from a single, small lamp
  • curtains fluttering effortlessly in the night breeze
  • soft, mellow finger picking from the room next door (thanks Alex)
  • quiet chatter from down the hall
  • a salty, slightly stale smell in the air that is comforting and nostalgic
  • the vague smell of plants, from the flower stems you cut earlier in the day to make a modest bouquet
  • bare wooden floors (a little cold) that your feet touch
  • a felty bedspread, which you are seated on
  • the slightly earthy taste of the water
  • a peppery flavor left on your lips from supper
Hopefully that was nice. :)

That's all for today, folks, but, of course, I'll include a picture I took right after lunch of the sheets flapping in the wind on the clothesline:

Love, Me
