Day 19

Good evening for day 19! This morning, I got a breakfast sandwich and headed up the hill to work. It was another foggy day, and I got in the office and started putting the finishing touches on my scavenger hunt. Right before the museum opened, I stepped outside and who did I see but my Aunt! My Aunt has been visiting my great-aunt near Augusta for a few days, and on her way home she and my second cousin stopped by Monhegan! They went on a little hike, and then I met them out at Whitehead and gave them a private Wildlands Walk (in reverse, which was a good exercise for me). I hugged goodbye, and went back to work.

Soon enough, it was 3:30 and Mar and JJ from the Island Inn came up the hill to go on my longer walk! Two fun private walks today, and it was a super nice way to ease back into the week. At the Yew, I put my stuff down and met Jorgie, Maya, and Skyler who were getting ready for Trash. Shortly, Alex drove us, Louis, and the trash up the hill. We played some Ultimate frisbee (shoutout my roommate Campbell and my friend Khalil who are certified ultimate Ultimate players).

We got a little tired, and around 6:15 drove down the hill. As we were making our way back to the dorm, the text from Gabe came through that dinner was ready, so we headed to the kitchen and had some spicy tamari chicken and couscous with veggies. I put some lemon garlic tahini AND tzatziki on my chicken -- super good choice. During dinner, we discovered that Jorgie was missing an earring! So we cleaned up and she, Alex, and I walked up to the ballfield to search for it.

For some added whimsy, we took one of the trails behind the meadow and climbed up through the cemetery, but on one of the trails there was a theft! On Monhegan, theft is unheard of, most people know each other, and there are kind of unspoken rules in an otherwise ungoverned community. Alex's hat was stolen, right off of his head. Here's the photo proof:

A twig reached out from the canopy and snatched it as he was walking by! Luckily, I caught the thief, hat-in-hand, right as the theft occurred, and Alex said he will not be pressing charges. Once up at the ballfield, we searched for Jorgie's earring, and I feel very proud to say that I was the one who found it in the grass. We had a pretty good idea of where to look, near the end zone where Jorgie dove and rolled for a catch. Now fully jeweled, we set back down the hill to the Yew. I started writing the blog, and then took a shower and hung out with folks in Jorgie's room. We watched another episode of Girls, and chatted more afterwards. A nice chill night, but my knees are a little tired from so much walking today! The health app says I climbed the equivalent of 40 floors worth of stairs today, so I guess my mild knee pain is warranted.

Here's a bonus picture of some eastern dwarf mistletoe poking out of a witches broom in a White spruce out on White Head that I saw today. One of these days I'll talk more about this mysterious parasitic plant, but I'm getting tired tonight.

Once more, thanks for tuning in, and I'll see you all tomorrow for day 20!

Love, Me
