Day 21
Welcome back to Monhegan Musings! Today is day 21, which means that I've spent three weeks on the island! They've certainly gone by fast. Today, I'm listening to Alex play Blackbird on the guitar. It was another hot day, and humid too. The walk to work was a little cooler because Alex gave me a ride about halfway there, since it is gas day, when everyone with a vehicle goes down to the wharf to fill up their gas cans. I still had to walk up the hill, but it was a fun change of scenery to drive through the village instead of walk through it.
Up at work I did some sanding on a tree stump we have in the keeper's house and then finished it with Tung oil. I then worked on some more enrichment for the exhibits then xascdefgthy (there was a bug on my keyboard, but I'll keep that little keysmash because it tells a story). Then I went on my walk and brought two ladies out to White Head. One of them noticed that I was wearing a Cape Cod Women's Music Festival t-shirt, and asked if I was form the Cape. I replied yes, of course, and she said that she used to visit Wellfleet very often. I told her that I work in Wellfleet when I'm at home and she asked if I knew of Winslow's Tavern. Yes, I do, I told her, my friend from high school (and now college)'s parents own and operate it! What a small world it is that this woman knows the woman who owns the restaurant, whose son I am good friends with! (Shoutout Hunter!)
The sky was so incredibly blue today, I have to include a picture:
There were a few spells of haze and fog today, but they just made the blue sky more magical.
After work, I managed to get another ride (down the hill this time) with Laurie and her husband Robert on their golf cart. Laurie works the museum gift shop and Robert gives tours of the Lighthouse. They're the sweetest couple, and they dropped me off at a little store in town on their way home. I needed to get soap, but I ended up buying some chocolate bars too. Back at the Yew, I found everyone sitting out on the porch discussing afternoon/evening plans. Jess was calling for a craft session, as she finally received her punch needling kit in the mail. Now that I'm writing this, I'm realizing a clever quip would be to call this a 'crafternoon'. She and some folks left for Swim beach while Jorgie and I cleaned the dorm. There's more people that live in the dorm than days of the week now, so we decided to team up. We cleaned, and then headed to the beach. I brought some friendship bracelet thread as my craft.
We met everyone up on the rock we were at yesterday and began to craft! Charlotte brought some henna and Jorgie gave her and Jess some awesome tattoos. Here's the moth girl she did:

Such beautiful photos!! 😘
