Day 24

Howdy! It's 11:11 on day 24, so I'd better make a wish. Does anyone know if the wish still counts if by the time you end the wish it's 11:12? Let me know. Or, I guess I'll figure it out based on if my wish comes true. It's a secret though.

This morning, I woke up naturally at 7, and decided to take that as a sign that I should get my day started. I had some breakfast, then walked down to the Wharf. I sat on the porch of the Barnacle (coffee shop) and watched the Laura B come into the harbor from Port Clyde. Today was my first time seeing that boat since I rode in on her just over three weeks ago. I feel that I know this island so well, but so much remains a mystery to me. I decided to go in and Mar took my order. I asked her what her favorite drink was, and then I ordered something completely different. It was yummy.

I stuck around on the wharf to watch the passengers disembark and then watched the pallets get taken off the boat by crane. There were probably seven or eight in total, two full of Amazon and USPS packages, and the others full of fruit, food, and other sundries. Once the pallets for specific hotels had been loaded off (two for the Island Inn, one for the Monhegan House), I helped Alex sort through the others that had goods meant for different businesses, including the Yew.

We loaded stuff for our kitchen into the truck, and helped other businesses with their parcels. Thanks, Alex, for letting me shadow you! It was pretty neat to see how that side of logistics on the island work. We drove back up to the Yew and unloaded our goodies. Then, everyone decided they wanted to go to the Mooring Chain, so I went but didn't order anything.

I did some nature journaling -- I drew some clover and a wildflower that I'll have to research to find out what it is. I listened to some great music and then did some writing on a play I've been working on. I spent lots of time out in the yard today -- writing, reading, eating a nectarine. A pretty classic summer day, I think. I did my laundry and hung it out on the lines in the sun -- so it will all smell like sunshine.

I did have a zoom call for the theater club at school that I'm technical director for, and we decided on a play for the fall! I'm really excited, and already have lots of ideas tech-wise. Once everyone here got done with their work, I took a shower.

I'm sitting here with Jess, and she's remarking how 'productive' I am on my days off, so maybe tomorrow I'll just lay in bed all day. You all will be the first to know if that happens.

We had leftovers for dinner and then walked down to Secret Beach (I'd tell you all where it is, but it's a secret) and sat on a big rock there. It started to get buggy in the still air, so we walked down to the Barnacle for a concert that was happening tonight. The band is Chico States from Portland, and it was only two of the four band members here, so it was more of an acoustic set. They were incredible. Honky-tonky, bluegrassy blues was just the right vibe for the night. I got the setlist from the guitarist so I can play back the songs they played tonight, one of which I'm listening to right now.

After the concert, we watched some folks fishing off of their lobster boat tied to the wharf. They caught a few pollock, which will be used for a fish fry on Monday night, apparently.

We walked back to the Yew and I watched the stars for a few minutes, then visited with people inside the dorm. Now, I'm sitting on my bed, ready for another day tomorrow. Thanks for following along.

I've decided to call fans of my blog 'Monhegan Musers', similar to how Nicki Minaj's fanbase is the 'Barbz' or Lady Gaga's 'Little Monsters'.

Goodnight!

Love, Me
