Day 25

Hey blog readers! It's day 25, which marks nearly halfway through my time on Monhegan. This morning I slept in, because I had a busy night yesterday. I had a bagel, then went to the Mooring Chain with Jess and her friends, and I got a coffee. I wrote some more of my play, on the picnic bench in the yard and got a little hot in the sun. Alex had the day off too, so I proposed we go to the brewing company. The garden is set up as both a beer garden and picnic area, where you can order food from the food truck there -- The Bait Bag. It was my first time there, and I got a fried haddock basket. I doused my haddock and fries in malt vinegar, which reminded me of eating at Cooke's seafood in my hometown.

Alex brought his cribbage set, and taught me how to play. It's a fun game, very different when it comes to card games. Eventually, all of our cards were blowing off the table, so we headed back to the Yew. Alex showed me this word game he got today that is sort of a mix of Scrabble and Wordscapes with a bunch of extra modifiers. I watched him play at first, then helped him play for a good two hours. Quite stimulating for the brain on a day off.

Amelia then came in and told us to look outside at a cloud rolling over the island. It was pretty menacing. I'd show you all a picture, but I was so spooked that my hands were shaking too much from fear to take a picture. Just kidding, I just forgot. Take my word for it, though. We took a quick walk to get a better look at it, then went into Jorgie's room to listen to stormy music while it rained. Think Etta James, Nina Simone, etc. We played this game where you fold a paper in thirds and draw a creature's head, torso, and legs separately without looking at what other people drew. We drew three very different creatures, including a ballerina in a school bus costume, a spider-armed mouse lady, and a tap dancing octopus girl.

Soon it was time for dinner -- parmesan crusted chicken, green beans, and mushroom rice. It hit the spot. We were joined by Frida, a kitty who has been hanging out at the Yew a lot the last few days. It was really nice to eat under the porch as the rain came down around us. We cleaned up, and chatted more outside. Now, I've been writing the blog for a bit inside on my bed, and I'm gearing up for a good night of sleep.

Here's a photo of the yard from while we ate dinner.

And, for contrast, here's a photo from this morning when it was nice and sunny:

It was nice to have a rainy evening though, I love being cozy inside with good company. To more good company -- whether it be people or nature!

Love, Me
