Day 32

Good evening on Day 32 of my time on Monhegan Island. This morning, We headed out of Appleton to the equally rural town of Warren. We visited Beth's Farm Market and picked up some goodies, including pickles, jams, and fresh blueberries. It's the season for blueberries on the mainland right now. Monhegan is about 3 or 4 weeks behind when it comes to plants and produce because of the climate. We also picked up a strawberry shortcake, which was exquisite!

We continued our journey south back into Rockland and got hot dogs at Wasses. I made sure to pay respect to my time living in Chicago and got both of my hot dogs with onions, relish, and mustard (NO KETCHUP). They didn't have tomato slices as an option, but I did my best. Then, we went to Hannaford to pick up a few things that had been requested. In addition to chocolate and canned tomatoes, we were asked by the innkeeper to pick up 15 to 20 pounds of bananas. So we did. The bananas occupied almost the whole duffel bag on the way home.

I then went to the Marshall Point Lighthouse, which is pretty small but very, very cute:

Then, it was time to head to the port to catch our ferry home. We unloaded my faithful car and parked him, then embarked on our journey back over the ocean to Monhegan. The swells were pretty big, nearly 6 or 7 feet in places, which made for a fun ride. I don't know how much it costs to ride a rollercoaster, but $25, two free bags, and a riveting trip to a beautiful island seems like a good deal.

Back at the wharf it had started raining, and we put our stuff in the truck. Mo drove us back to the Yew and I took a shower. Then I did some unpacking and caught up with Jorgie in the kitchen. Jorgie was making Shakshouka and I helped out as her sous chef. It turned out so well:

Now, It's time to get back to life on Monhegan, and that will start with a good night's sleep.

Love, Me

  1. Hmm - my least favorite post as I have the image and smell of all those bananas in my mind. But it otherwise seems like an exquisite adventure!
