Day 7

Happy Wednesday, happy hump day, happy day we wear pink, happy one week!

Thanks for indulging my rhymes. It's day 7! This morning was just like the last few, I got my scrambled eggs and sausage then went back to my bed for a quick nap before work. I packed my lunch of chickpea cakes, creamy adobo sauce, and rice and went up the hill!

Today at work I felt super crafty. The first task I had was laminating the posters I had designed (and the three others that Laura from the museum designed in the same time). I had so much fun with the laminator and paper cutter! Afterwards, I crafted some handmade signs advertising the opening reception this sunday!

After no time, it was time to get ready for the daily Wildlands Walk. Turns out that today just didn't have the right energy for folks, and no one was interested in heading out into the woods with me. It's okay though, we still hadn't put up the posters yet or done any advertising, so I understand the lack of interest. The museum also just didn't feel as busy today as it did the other days this week. Oh well!

Instead of the Wildlands Walk, I ate my lunch and worked on another project until 2:30, when I walked down to the wharf to put up some posters on the shed. I timed it right so that I could give a poster to the crew on the Balmy Days ferry at 2:45, and the Hardy Boat ferry at 3:15. That half-hour in between? I went to the Island Inn to stop by the reception for an artist's opening here! His paintings were beautiful, and many of his watercolors reminded me of my grandfather's work. There were also some yummy treats provided by the Island Inn, so I helped myself to some tartlets and a mini eclair.

FAMILY FUN FACT:

  • My grandfather on my mom's side -- Grampy, as my cousins and I called him -- was an excellent painter. He mostly worked with watercolor, but he did a fair amount of oil as well. He was an incredibly sweet man and had such amazing stories to tell, it didn't matter how many times he had told them. He was so interested in everything my cousins and I were up to, and encouraged us to always express ourselves creatively. One of his favorite artists was Edward Hopper, and I feel so blessed to spend time on the very island where Hopper painted.
After my excursion down the hill, it was inevitable that I had to climb it again. But this task, however sisyphean in nature, yields a gorgeous view once the summit is reached. So worth it. Back up at the museum, I worked a little more on my project and started thinking about a longer, more in-depth walk that I'll be guiding just twice a week. What do I want it to look like? Where do I want it to go? What do I want it to focus on? Didn't really answer any of those questions, but I got my brain working on them. At around 4:45 I walked back down the hill and back to the inn. Wednesdays are my days to clean the dorm, so I put some music in my headphones and got to work. Afterwards I took a shower, and just as I was getting dressed I received the text that dinner was ready.

Tonight we were treated to balsamic herb-crusted chicken, tamari sesame noodles, and salad. Can you guess what I'm having for lunch tomorrow? I came back to my room and am writing the blog here as Alex alternates between playing guitar and mandolin. It really makes me think of my two best friends from home, Liv and Jessie. I love you two <3

Just like that, the sun is about to go down, and we'll see what the darkness brings. There have been rumors of a movie night!

Thanks for sticking with me for a week everyone! I hope Monhegan Musings brings a little mindfulness and reflectiveness to your day, and helps you slow down.

Love, Me
