Day 28
Good evening on day 28 of my time on Monhegan Island! Tonight, I'm listening to Isabelle Antena's 1987 album 'Hoping for Love'. It's mainly sung in French and has lots of jazzy and latin influences. I'm also enjoying a coffee sweetened with Maine maple syrup. This morning I packed my lunch and walked through town and up the hill to the museum. I worked on making a digital map of where the artworks in the exhibit were created on the island.
We were a little too late to see the sun actually set, but we stayed to watch the colors:
Remarkable. I love to think about what that word looks like it means -- something that is to be remarked about. There are so many things that are the subjects of remarks, however we only classify a few as remarkable. What a shame! So many things are remarkable, they ought to earn their credit too. Remarkable should not be synonymous with extraordinary.
At 1pm, I went on my walk and was joined by the museum director! It was super neat to have someone as knowledgeable on the walk, but also a little nerve wracking! Regardless, the walk was amazing and I got some awesome feedback from one of the visitors once we finished. Back at the office, I ate my lunch and enjoyed the last nectarine I had stockpiled.
I went home the backway, because I was really enjoying the weather today. This rather secret path goes down from the lighthouse to the cemetery, then behind the meadow and ends up near the crest of Horn's Hill. Back at the Yew, I hung out with folks behind the dorms. I hula hooped, Olivia and Alex weaved grass crowns, and Jorgie looked for a specific flower called a touch-me-not. They aren't poisonous or anything, the seed pockets just explode when you touch them. We found a few to trigger and left the others.
We had dinner rather early tonight because it was leftovers. I made pasta with a sweet potato and green beans. We sat outside until the sun began to set and decided to go back up to the lighthouse to watch, but we went up the back way. Here are two photos from the way there:
Now, I'm back at the Yew, nearing the end of Isabelle Antena's album. I'll continue listening to the end though, because it's so good.
I hope your days were remarkable.
Love, Me
