Day 48

Welcome back to Monhegan Musings! It's my 48th day on the island now, and It was another hot one! I got a ride into town from Alex, then walked up the hill. I took a little break on the bench about 3/4 of the way up to cool down a bit. My 1pm walk was a big hit today! I had a record-breaking 10 people, which doesn't sound like a lot, but I felt like I was leading a disney tour and that I shouldve been holding up a bright-colored umbrella to show people where I was. Jorgie and her boyfriend Ty (who is visiting) came on my walk today and seemed to really enjoy it. Thanks for coming you two!

I ate lunch and did a little more work back in the office, then walked home, but saw Alex driving the truck about halfway home. I hopped in and went down with him to the Wharf. It was so hot, so I decided to treat myslef to some gelato at the Barnacle. I got a mix of pistachio and salted caramel, and Mar and Jes gave it to me for free! What a treat!

I rode back to the Yew on the tailgate, then decided to lay down. It was so hot, I didn't really know what else to do. So, I tried to take a nap. Even with. my fan on full blast, it was just too hot to sleep, so I went outside and filled my water bottle up with ice, then found Gabe, Alex, David, and Ty behind the dorms. We discussed tonight's plans and got to know Ty a little, then Maizy and I made plates of leftovers for dinner. I had sweet potatoes with hummus and an apple. Maizy interviewed me for a mini-documentary that she is doing on the Trailing Yew, so I talked about family dinner and how I still feel like a part of the family even though I don't really work at the Yew.

Then, Jess came home from a long hike we decided to go swimming. Jess, David, Alex, Gabe, and I walked down to Fish Beach and Alex and I jumped off the end of the breakwater. The water was much colder than it was yesterday, so it was a pretty quick swim. I went back to the Yew and took a shower. Now, I'm listening to Mary Jane by Mary J. Blige. Plans have yet to form -- there might be some card playing, or I might call it an early night. We'll see! Here's a silly seagull atop the cookhouse tonight:

For now, I'm going to log off. Thanks for joining me another day!

Love, Me
