Day 49

It's day 49 on little Monhegan Island, and once again, it was hot. I walked up to work this morning and enjoyed my breakfast sandwich in the climate controlled office. I don't feel quite as bad/greedy having the museum be climate controlled, because it's not for the people, it's for the art. Sometime around 12:30, the fog abruptly rolled in, completely changing the clear, blue-skied mood to one of mystery. But seriously, it was strange!

I took two people on my walk, including David! He asked some fantastic questions and had some great insights. It can sometimes be hard to do the walk on foggy days, because so much of what I talk about involves looking across the coves from Headland to Headland, and in the fog they can't be seen. And of course, right as I got back to the museum, the fog had lifted. What luck! Here's what the view from the top of the cliff towards the water looked like:

After my walk, I sat in the keeper's house to cover for a volunteer. I ate my lunch, then went across the lawn to the Museum Store to see Laurie. I did some shopping (gifts, but also for myself!). I got a few postcards that I will hang up in my dorm room back at school. Even without pictures, I know the art that I have studied this summer will stay with me.

After my shopping, I went home and began to do a little sorting ahead of my packing, which I will do tomorrow. Then, I sat out on the porch and watched the harbor. The waves were fairly large, and I could see the mast of a sailboat bobbing from side to side.

Then, I went down to the boat with Alex. We found Jorgie and Ty on the way, and picked them up. After we picked up bags, we drove back to the Yew. I sat on my bed for a little bit, then had dinner. We had burgers, which really hit the spot. There were also potato wedges, which are probably the least hated side dish ever. Delish!

Then, Alex and Jess and I went down to the Wharf to meet Maya and her Dad on their boat Sea Fox. We got to ride around under some pretty hefty horsepower! We went around Manana and out to the Duck Rocks to see some seals. They were harbor seals, so they were pretty cute. We came back into the Wharf a little past sunset, and walked back behind the Island Inn. We spotted some friends playing video games, and went in and sat with them for an hour or so. I decided to go back to the Yew and take a shower, and now I'm laying on my bed writing the blog, listening to Miles Davis. He's inspired me to finally watch a film I've been meaning to watch called Ascenseur pour l'échafaud, or Elevator to the Gallows. Miles Davis played (and improvised) the score to the film. I'm going to grab some tea and watch it.

Before I sign off, I would like to do a special shoutout on today's blog -- to my grandmother, Nammie. It's her birthday, and since she's back in Mass and I'm here, I'd like to wish her a good day. I know it's already happened, but I hope it was good. You have always been my biggest supporter, and I know you're always thinking about me. I know you read my blog, and comment often too! I'll see you in just a few days!

Love, Me
