Day 51

It's Day 51 of my journey, and I am no longer on Monhegan Island, but I'll walk you through my day -- most of which was spent on the island. I woke up on the early side and grabbed some breakfast. It was finally not scorching hot today, so I enjoyed it out in the sun on the picnic table on the lawn. Then, I got to work packing. I was (and still am) surprised at the amount of stuff I have procured during my time on this island. At work, I prepared for some special visitors -- reporters from both the Portland Press Herald and Maine Public Radio came to cover the Wildlands Walks. With all their awesome questions, we finished up the walk at 3 -- almost an hour after I usually finish. It was a great way to end the Wildland Walks series.

I scrambled down the Hill after saying my goodbyes to say another goodbye -- to Jorgie at the Wharf. She and Ty left on the 3:15 ferry to New Harbor. I didn't jump, because right after they left I had to finish packing and head to the dock myself to catch the 4:30 boat to Port Clyde. Maya was leaving the island today on the same ferry, so I sat with her and Maizy, who is went inshore for a family event. I drove my car down to onto the wharf and loaded in my things, and hugged Maya goodbye.

Next, I drove up to Appleton, Maine where I'm staying at Oona's house overnight before I start the rest of my drive back home tomorrow. Here's two pictures from today:

Oona's family fed me a yummy dinner of salmon, corn, and salad. Before I sign off, I'd like to write a little send-off to my favorite people out on the island, in no particular order:

JORGIE:
Jorgie, you are SO COOL. I love your outfits and I wish my style could be as amazing as yours. Thanks for making jewelry with me, and going on nonsensical walks with me.

JANE:
Thanks for leaving parties early with me, watching videos on Instagram together in our downtime, and helping me get settled my first few days on the island.

JESS:
You were my first friend on Monhegan Island, and I'm so happy that you enjoy swimming just as much as I do. Thanks for Manana, trips to the Mooring Chain that made my belly happy but my wallet sad, and so many laughs.

MAR:
You're basically a museum employee -- thanks so much for going on my walks and sharing a love for art. Thanks also for snapping some super good candid pictures of me, my camera roll is fire now!

OLIVIA:
Thanks for letting me try all of your divine baked goods, and sharing your extensive knowledge of what oils help with what, and teas. We must meet again so you can read my Tarot.

MAYA:
Thanks for all the nights in Deadman's Cove, the motivation to go swimming, and the such good laughs. We get each other, and I can't wait to see how you excel in college (I know you will).

ALEX:
Thanks for being my card-playing buddy and my ride halfway to work most days. I hope you enjoyed the hours we spent on the wharf together loading freight and bags. Looking forward to another STOMP! night soon. Come visit!

CHARLOTTE:
Thanks for bringing us cake and cheese and crackers and fruit from the Moho. You're a true member of the Yew Crew even if you don't live there. Hope you have fun in Wales!

There are so many more people that are special to me, but I'm getting really tired, so I'm going to head to bed. Thank you all for making my Monhegan summer spectacular.

Love, Me
Love Me
Love ME
Love Maine
I Love Maine

I'll post again in a few days with a reflection, and once again to put in the links for the stories that the reporters were covering today. Don't count Monhegan Musings as over, you never know what next summer may hold..................................................................................
